Choose from the Mctavish Classic Colour palette linked below. All our colours are mixed by hand, but we have a “recipe” to create the Classic Colours as consistently as possible. We can mix you a custom colour for an additional fee.

Ben and Bob design every model with a set of specs in mind to keep the way each board surfs consistent. You can choose from the list of standard sizes for each model, but if you want anything outside of that, reach out to us; you might have to chat to the shaper first.

Any existing model - new or old! If you can’t find the model you’re looking for, reach out and we’ll see what we can do.

Glass On Fin(s) minimise the chance of a blowout and provide a functional, smooth transition from board to fin. The extra glass around the base of the fin adds a new level of strength and looks particularly pleasing in the process. + $250

Tail Blocks are a rarity these days but were very popular in the mid-sixties and offer a luxurious but subtle, true-to-era spin on your traditional log. Plus they protect those dingable delicate corners of your board. + $350

Paint pinlines are sprayed on. Resin pinlines are much more complex. You have to brush on the coloured resin to get the right consistency, pull the tapes at the perfect time, then go around with a nail file and tidy all the edges. You have to practically watch the paint dry to get the timing right. Paint Pinline + $130, Resin Pinline + $200

A polished finish can really make a board pop. But if understated is your thing then a matte finish may be the way to go. Or why not mix it up with a combo finish, half polish - half matte, often following a deck insert or cutlap. Matte + $0, Polish + $150, Combo + $150

Included with your Custom Design is your choice of a single colour tint lamination (from the Mctavish Palette), cedar stringer and matte finish. Custom Art and Custom Colours are available for an additional fee.

We’ll keep you in the loop as we build your board so you know exactly where it’s at in the factory and how many sleeps until you can get your hands on it! Once it’s complete, we’ll pack your original order form with your board. Consider it a birth certificate.

You'll walk through the factory and fondle some of our finest boards from over the years, together with Bob or Ben we can narrow down the perfect board for you. The result is whatever we can dream up together, from an early-70s- style Bluebird with period- correct art to a 12-foot twin- fin glider with hot rod flames!

Our in-house photographer will capture photos of you and Bob or Ben in the bay together. If you choose the online experience we will shoot Bob or Ben shaping the board. These photos will be delivered with your board as frame-them-on-your-wall-worthy prints.

Additionally you'll receive a video of your board making its way through every stage of the build process in the factory.

If you are overseas or can't make it into the factory, we have a virtual version of the experience that will make it feel like you are practically there. Bob or Ben will take you on a Facetime tour of the factory and then set you up with them in the shaping bay to watch your board being handshaped from start to finish.
