Founded by surfboard shaping icon Bob McTavish in 1962, McTavish is a surfing lifestyle brand born out of Byron Bay, Australia. Who We Are After
We’re searching for a Casual Barista/Retail Assistant with great energy and genuine hospitality. You love good coffee, good conversation, and creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere for locals and visitors alike. You take pride in every cup, understand the importance of consistency and presentation, and work well under pressure while keeping your cool.

Responsibilities
Customer Experience
- Welcome every customer with genuine hospitality — think less “sales” and more “host”
- Create a friendly, inclusive atmosphere that reflects McTavish values
- Serve consistently excellent coffee and simple food offerings to a high standard
- Support community events and in-store gatherings where café service is involved
Product & Quality
- Prepare espresso beverages, filter coffee, and cold drinks to standard recipes
- Maintain high standards of presentation and cleanliness across all café areas
- Monitor coffee quality and communicate proactively about equipment or supply issues
- Support stock rotation, restocking, and daily prep tasks
Operations & Teamwork
- Assist with opening and closing duties, including till operation and cleaning
- Follow food safety and hygiene procedures
- Work collaboratively with café, retail, and event staff
- Support retail team during busy shop periods when the café is quiet
- Share feedback and ideas to improve service, efficiency, and sustainability
- Attend staff training and meetings as required
