Design

We're all familiar with Josie's delicate, deft touch and perfect timing on her 9'5" Noserider, and of course her mid-length quiver. But you don't grow up in Byron and only surf the Pass and Wategos - the Nor'Easter season makes sure of that. Josie spent many of her formative years chasing punchy beach breaks around the shire on shorter equipment, she just hadn't put much time into it in recent years.

Twelve months ago Josie came to us with one request: I need to get barrelled. Not just a head dip - a proper pit, and plenty of them.

Challenge accepted. It was time to make a board to get Josie some proper time in the tunnel. During the following 12 months of testing we kept getting hit up by people that were in a similar position to Josie – coming from longer boards and looking to unlock new sensations without losing the more elegant aspects of mid-lengths or classic logs.

The Josie Quad is not just a tube hunter, it's a semi-performance short/mid for waist-to-overhead surf that is built to suit anyone downsizing from a long or mid, or looking for a fun, reliable and quirk-free alternative shortboard.

Features

6'6" Josie Quad

Paddle power

To get in early behind the peak or reef slab. Chest volume and a touch of nose width make it possible.

6'6" Josie Quad

Speed

Front foot gas pedal. A single front foot concave flattens the rocker through the centre of the hull and generates drive where it counts.

6'6" Josie Quad

Control

A fairly neutral outline with a fine rail to sit a little deeper when on edge, paired with a quad setup to lock in and knife the turn. A round pin for subtle adjustments, to manage the extra speed, and to drop into a carve without washing off momentum. A forward bottom rail bevel keeps the wider nose dry and helps fit into tighter curves - in effect making the nose feel narrower.
