In 1962, a surf-obsessed teenager named Bob McTavish began building surfboards.
For over 60 years McTavish has stayed at the cutting edge of surfboard design and craftsmanship. Bob played a leading role in the Shortboard Revolution and has experimented with everything from asymmetric outlines in the ‘70s, Windsurfers, Wave Skis, Snowboards, Sailboards, and even Aeroplane parts.
His relentless curiosity for endless progression and new sensations is now shared by his son Ben and has resulted in countless beautiful, functional, and genuinely iconic surfboard designs.
With 100+ years of combined surfboard design experience between Bob and Ben, we continue to make surfboards that are built to perform, deliver maximum stoke, and endure generations of use.
They just work - no gimmicks - all function.

Our clothing is designed and developed by surfers for surfers, and anyone who appreciates good gear built to endure the daily demands of a surfer’s lifestyle.
Today, McTavish remains privately owned by a small group of surfers who deeply value our heritage and the quality we’re known for.
We remain committed to playing our part in the local surf community by hosting and supporting grassroots events, designing high-quality functional surfboards and apparel, and passing on the art of board building to the next generation.
