“Finally! A showroom I feel proud to have local and overseas visitors come visit and get the feel of what “Dedicated to the Craft” really means! Hospitable, Friendly, Super quality, Progressive-regressive, Tasty! With a tang of resin fumes. Always with a surprise or two!” Bob McTavish
The inspiration for the design & fit-out for our new showroom epitomises the “Dedicated to the Craft” philosophy we have towards making surfboards, bringing together a collection of beautiful elements, materials and tradespeople, through various built features, furniture, fixtures and art.
We wanted a place where we could not only showcase our many surfboard designs & new apparel but somewhere we could meet old and new friends, chat about the last adventure we all had and ultimately appropriately host our customers who often travel from afar. In addition to the wonderful array of surfboards proudly displayed, you’ll find a selection of art and imagery that melts our company's history into today's beautiful surf movement. A spacious showroom that brings it all together in a way we felt people would enjoy and be encouraged to help us celebrate everything that is McTavish.
Bifold doors invite you from the outdoor entertaining deck area into the cafe showroom where you can order your choice of great coffee, hearty savouries or if you wish a selection of sweet baked treats. A huge art mural sets a perfect vibe from a time when there was a still a jetty at Belongil. There is even a collection of electric hand planers from Bob and Ben McTavish, representing the countless hours spent shaping boards in the factory just next door.
We applied various timbers types including freshly milled cedar, evident in the bespoke furniture to the recycled blackbutt from our old office used in our handmade dining table, all seamlessly blended with custom concrete counter tops, hand forged steel fittings, robust copper tape-ware and beautiful patterned tiles. We even installed an outdoor shower so you can come straight from a surf, freshen up and relax with a warm brew.
The project was a collaborative effort from the entire McTavish team, along with some talented people we’d like to thank for helping us along the way.
