I am an average surfer at 47 yrs old, and surf about 5 times per week and have been struggling for wave catchabiIity on my 6”6”’s. I bought a 9’1” Fireball which is unreal but I wanted something a bit faster with a short board feel. I was hesitant about the design of the Carver because it has a massive forward concave which really emphasized a different bottom rail shape which ran 2/3rds of the way back from the nose. It looked like a speed machine, but I though the rails may be prone to burying when turning. I have since found out that this board is everything McTavish says it is. It performs like a short board, is super fast and turns exceptionally well (and doesn’t bog down). I use it in a variety of conditions – from good surf to average to shitty. It has great down the line speed in barrels and around critical sections where it can then turn on a dime. This is by far the best board I have ridden. I take my hat off to the designers as I know they have been working on the Carver design for many years – I reckon they have got it perfectly right. Dave from the Sunshine Coast |
