We've done a deal with Westpac Altitutude Rewards so that Westpac customers can use their rewards points towards the purchase of their next board. We've had a great response so far and we're hoping to expand the program over summer. This is a picture of Chris Warr's board, he used his Westpac points to buy his son a sweet birthday present!

To order a board, follow this link, http://altituderewards.com.au/public/redeem_product.aspx?id=45279 and redeem your points. We will call you to confirm your order, and ask a couple of questions to make sure you've got the right model and dimensions to suit. You can then pick a board from our online store or we can custom order one with your own artwork. Freight is included in the price, anywhere in Australia.

One Friday each month we have our retail staff meeting, which typically starts at Wategos at 6am. This morning we were greeted with the most woeful conditions so far this year, 1 ft wind chop, and enough wind-chill for me to have my first wetsuit surf of 2011. Still, Dave English (our retail manager) and I went out for a few, and it was a chance to give the square nose Fireball another run. I have to say it went really well considering the waves - it noserides unreal, is great off the tail, and the flatter 07R rocker profile trims nice through the dead sections, and there were plenty of them today. My only criticism of the board so far is that maybe i've had it made too light. By having it laminated in 4x4x4oz it doesn't run as well as my old 6x6x6oz squaretail Fireball due to it being so light. I'm looking forward to getting it out in some decent 3-4 footers, and having a real crack off the tail, that'll be the decider on weather to whip up a heavier one.

Dave on the way to the tip on his Redline - a good choice for windy slop

Slow conditions made it hard to get the light-weight Sqaure-nose moving - happy McT customer in the background!

Wide, chopped-off template makes this board nice and stable on the nose
I just put the first of our new Fireball models in the online store. We've had great feedback on the performance of this new design. One of our directors, Ben W posted a blog recently about this model. So if you want to try something new....be quick...it won't last long.

Check it out in our online store

A lot of great things have come out of Byron Bay over the years; pro surfers, olympians, and even the odd movie/TV star, but one of the most enduring successes has to be local metalcore band Parkway Drive. These Byron High School kids started the band in 2002, and have achieved global acclaim for their music, and even took home an Aria award in 2010. Most of the band member love to surf, and frontman Winston McCall (also a former star bodyboarder) is no exception. A recent knee injury has kept Winston off the bodyboard and looking for something to cruise on - a custom 9'1" Fireball will do the job.
Check out info on the band here www.resistrecords.com/bands/parkwaydrive/ and even if you're not into heavy music, the Parkway DVD is a great story of a local band with truly international success, watch it if you ever get the chance!

Winston picks up his new Fireball - after 5 weeks of touring in the US, no doubt looking forward to warm water and sunshine in the Bay
Todays blog is personal - new board day for me! I've had a couple of specialised noserider boards over the years, but have been thinking of something special for a while now - A lightweight Fireball squaretail (4x4x4oz) with a flatter entry rocker (which we call an 07R) and a chopped nose, nice and wide (19") for extended noseriding. This should be light and responsive off the tail too, as its a narrow 13 3/4" tail, with a 3" square. Ben McTavish worked OT on Wednesday to get it shaped for me, and Billy laminated it yesterday - today its been pro-tek sprayed and its ready to ride. Will try to get some pics next week of how its going - should be fun.
