This beautiful Cord walked into the factory this morning under the arm of Silas, one of the local longboard rippers. Silas wanted it to go to a good home, so where better than the shaper's current digs?
The late Kevin Platt and I shaped all the Cords that came out of the little Caloundra factory in 1966. Algie Grud was glassing and Russell Hughes, John Mantle, and Darrell 'Rooster' Dell doing the rest. The Lascelles family were the owner/management.
At the Australian Titles that year at Coolangatta Cord boards were the outstanders, winning many major places. although Nat won on Sam, his own shape, I took second, Russell third, and Drouyn took out the juniors, all on Cord boards.
John Fletcher, a Byron local, resurrected the Cord brand briefly in the eighties. But this one is an original from 1966, and is very welcome back "home" again.
