Off-cuts

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

Ten years ago this was a common sight - rail offcuts are the first byproduct of a fully hand shaped surfboard, but now that shaping machines have largely replaced the hand-shaper you don't see them much anymore! Here's a pile of rail offcuts from last weeks batch of hand-shapes I did - hitting the bin!

Fin find

Monday, March 12, 2012

These two fins were made 38 years apart. The left one I shaped on 1974 on the last batch of spoons I made. The right one I sketched from memory a couple of weeks ago for the latest batch of spoons - pretty similar. The left board showed up today to surprise me after 38 years.

The Three

Monday, March 12, 2012
Can't believe it. A mate rolled in today with two more spoons out of the batch of four I made start to finish myself back in 1974. The red one has been in my possession for many years after the original buyer Raynor Deuring gave it back to me. It now resides in the Surfworld Museum at Currumbin - But here it is with two of its three brothers from the family of 1974.

Spoon Reunion

Friday, March 09, 2012

This morning we had a massive Spoon reunion on the factory lawn. Kneeboarder Gary Self showed up with 2 of the Spoons Bob made back in '74. He had tacquired them from a friend who'd had them stored at his factory over 15 years ago. Bob has one of the '74 Spoons, so in total we had 3 of the 4 from that batch, plus the new ones from our last run. They looked awesome lined up together out the front.
